It’s no secret that I love me a fun little electric pickup truck from China. Yes, I’m that guy that floated one over from half way around the world to use as a farm truck in the US. But just like my four year old nephew after a run through a candy store, time does not stand still. And neither does the pace of development in Chinese electric mini truck factories. Because less than half a year after my own mini electric pickup truck rolled into my garage and heart, more advancements are popping up in the industry. And that means that we all get to enjoy the latest that the Chinese mini electric pickup truck market has to offer in this week’s rendition of the Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week!

Drone whips around Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory in new fast-paced video

Nevada pledges to electrify all new trucks and buses by 2050

The governor of Nevada, Steve Sisolak (D-NV), signed a multi-state agreement yesterday that pledges at least 30% of all new trucks and buses sold will be zero emission by 2030, and 100% will be zero emission by 2050.

Canada’s new 2035 gas car ban may not actually ban gas cars

Canada has unveiled a $9 billion “2030 emissions reduction plan” with several provisions aimed at lowering the country’s emissions, including a plan to mandate 20% zero-emission new light-duty vehicle sales in 2026, rising to 60% by 2030 and 100% by 2035. But it may not actually ban gas cars – depending on how the plan defines plug-in hybrids.

GM’s BrightDrop rebrands its electric delivery vehicles and carts with more cohesive names

General Motors’ commercial EV brand, BrightDrop, announced a rebranding of its entire ecosystem of electrified products, including delivery vehicles, storage carts, and software. The new nomenclature system falls more in line with parent company GM’s focus on “zero” branding.

Drive Electric Earth Day runs all of April, with in-person outdoor events around the US

Plug in America, the Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association are hosting their annual Drive Electric Earth Day event where advocates educate attendees about EV ownership. While most events will take place on April 22-23, Earth Day weekend, the first events start this Saturday, April 2, with over 180 events scheduled all through the month across the US (and a couple in Canada and New Zealand).

Siemens Gamesa is now producing 115-meter-long offshore wind turbine blades

Spanish-German wind giant Siemens Gamesa has started production of its first B115 blades at its facility in Aalborg, Denmark. The blades will be used on its SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbine, which will have an output of 14 megawatts (MW) and a rotor diameter of 236 meters (774 feet).
